A hypocrite is the kind of politician who would cut down a redwood tree, then mount the stump and make a speech for conservation. — Adlai Stevenson (1900-1965)
toking to a frend and bout hypocrites =X hmmm i nida check dictionary 1st hahaha to confirm the words meaning
: a person who professes beliefs and opinions that they do not hold
Hypocrites are a group of people I can never really understand and tolerate. The mere sight of them disgusts me. HAHA. Don’t think that describes my feeling only, I think lots of people out there cannot stand them too, but not so extreme. Well, have you really think about whether you’re one of them? HAHA. If you say you’re not, it’s either you are lying (making you a hypocrite right now) or you are one of those rare souls out there who aren’t corrupted by the society. People tend to cover, hide, and distort their true self in front of their friends. Some may choose to wear a mask, a façade, u can call, while others dun. I emphasis again:
This is rare.
First of all we must understand that hypocrisy refers to the act of criticizing others for behavior which one engages in as well, or in other words, not practicing what you preach. In layman terms, it means to slap your own mouth.
George B and co are one big group of hypocrites. The Bush Administration commits acts directly against democracy. The war crimes they commit and the death and destruction that they have caused. Their pillaging of the middle class and working poor and most importantly their violations of civilized standards are all against what they preached: freedom and equality. From what it appears, they are disregarding basic human rights. If that’s irrelevant to you, take a look around you. Now.
Look carefully. Look at your friends, you parents or any other homo sapiens. Have they ever make mistakes? Have they had any bad behaviors? Don’t say no, because you know no one is perfect. To a certain degree, everyone is a hypocrite. However, the only difference between us is the extent which we disguise ourselves. Some people never show their real personality in front of others while some only hide theirs partially. Hide or show? The decision is hard. From the looks of it, you and I are actually the type of people we hate? Sounds illogical? Think about this slowly and hopefully you’ll understand what I’m trying to mean.
So, I’ll just make a simple assumption first: everyone uses a façade and are deemed as hypocrite. Well, why do people choose to do this? We can choose to hide or show the inner us.
1.To protect ourselves from the unknown by preventing people from discovering and exposing our weaknesses and exploiting them. On the other hand, is this really necessary? Trying to hide the truth is always a tedious and meticulous chore, especially so if you used this tool: lies. Once a single lie is exposed, tones more with emerge to cover it. In a sense, this is a vicious cycle. You lie now; maybe in the future you’ll be haunted by this. (That’s why I don’t lie so much. Lying is a skill I can never perfect. =) )
2.People just simply like hypocrites. They appear to be the best in the eyes of others. The desire to obtain or at least appears to be the best. Fearing they might lose their “friendship”, some might turn to projecting a false image to others. They praise and behave in a servile or obsequious manner. (HAHAHA, so how many true friends do we actually have?? I really wonder? Yup, we can never say for sure. Appearances are deceiving and never judge a book by its cover. ) True friends are a group of special people, who will tell you what they think even though it might hurt you because they care and hope you strive to improve. (Families by default should be true to each other =) HA HA ) (Another thing to take note of, some people I know of simply enjoy the excitement and pleasure in hurting others. Please, they are not your true friends >.< HeehEE, wouldn’t say who they are, but bear this in mind, its good to have such friends too. At least you know what not to be in the future:) )
3.“Desires.” Plays a critical role in why we choose to have this façade. A lack of respect for the seducing nature of sin has led many to live hypocritical lives. In our heart of hearts, we know fully well that something is morally wrong with our actions, but we do it anyway because it feels good or is convenient. Most people start off with good intentions and along the way their moral values somehow get off track. Because our flesh likes the things of this world, compromise is inevitable for those people who play with temptation. “If you keep dancing on the edge of the abyss, you’ll eventually fall in. It takes people who are honest and humble to know their limits.” The apostle Paul gave some very good advice to the Thessalonians on how to avoid becoming a hypocrite. He told them to, “Abstain from all appearance of evil” (1 Thes. 5:22). Notice he said Christians should not only abstain from whatever is wrong, but also abstain from whatever appears to be wrong. Play-acting or pretence are synonyms of hypocrisy.
Rationalization is a useful tool for relieving guilt and removing ourselves from responsibility. A person who is 70kg overweight can look at someone who is 200kg overweight and marvel at the other's obesity. But a person can’t make himself thinner by finding people who are fatter than he is. He may have a lower percentage of body fat than other people, but nonetheless, according to the basic guidelines for weight, he is still fat. Self- denial and the desire to remove the feeling of inferiority spurs more people into being hypocrites.
Hopefully the world would become a nicer place to live in. No hypocrites exist. As wilks will say that’s an utopia but would never be impossible. We just need to unlearn what we have learned, eventually maybe we can become truthful to ourselves, the people around us. It’s a dream and dreams are never meant to come true. Can’t think of anymore things to add on right now. Think I better turn in.
Well I'm a hypocrite after reading through this ...but rite now I'm not =) hahaha. So, if you admit you’re a hypocrite, are you really one?
"The only vice which cannot be forgiven is hypocrisy. The repentance of a hypocrite is itself hypocrisy." - William Hazlitt
"We are all hypocrites. It is in our very nature to be so. So much so that even our protestation of hypocrisy is, in itself, patently hypocritical." - Claire Worthington
